the greenhouse

my latest personal piece is done after reworking it over many, many years. i think i started this originally in 2017 after going to the aviary at the oregon zoo. i realized i don't tackle a ton of building in my work and that a greenhouse or aviary would be a good place to start as it acts like both and indoor and outdoor space. over and over i'd re-approach this illustration, redraw it, try to make it work and just find i couldn't do it. it was a lot of detail and not something i felt i had the skills to tackle yet. this year though i finally felt like i knew how i'd finish it and about a week ago i tried again, today i finished

part of the inspiration is just exploring the concept of getting comfortable in safe spaces and always looking outside, but never venturing into that world due to fear. life can be scary, but it isn’t a reason to stop yourself from pushing into it and seeing what it can hold for you
